Abstract

Technological developments encourage generation Z to face various emotional pressures that give rise to the phenomenon of quarter-life crisis. One frequently applied coping adaptation is emotion-focused coping. The purpose of this study is to investigate the correlation between an individual's sense of humor and the use of emotion-focused coping in members of generation Z experiencing a quarter-life crisis. This study used a quantitative method. This study involved 261 participants as a sample. 261 individuals were selected using a purposive sampling technique. This study used the Multidimensional Sense of Humor Scale (MSHS) and Ways of Coping from Lazarus & Folkman (1986) with the Emotion-focused coping subscale. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman correlation test using IBM SPSS Statistics 25 for Windows. The results showed a correlation between sense of humor and emotion-focused coping in generation Z experiencing a quarter-life crisis. This can be seen from the results of the Spearman test. The finding showed a significant positive correlation of moderate strength, r = 0.400, p < 0.01 which means there is a significant positive correlation between sense of humor and emotion-focused coping. These findings show that the greater the sense of humor, the greater the emotion-focused coping ability of generation Z who are experiencing a quarter-life crisis.
